About Dr Keely Boom Lawyer

How can we serve you?

Dr Keely Boom is a practising solicitor with almost 20 years of experience. She operates a legal practice making a positive and principled contribution to the community. She leads a values-driven legal practice integrating sustainability principles, Indigenous ways of knowing and doing, and Christian ethical values, including dignity, justice, stewardship, compassion and integrity.

Dr Boom has sought to honour her values and obligations throughout her legal career, starting with volunteering in human rights education as a high school student. She is the Executive Officer of the Climate Justice Programme.


As an Aboriginal Australian woman and a Christian, she seeks to honour her ancestors, Country and the inherent dignity in all humans and non-human beings through excellent service as a lawyer, as an academic and in daily living.


Dr Boom's core belief is that we are all equal and that fairness should be integral in the law and in legal practice. We live in uncertain times, which requires the coupling of deep values-driven practice with innovation and interdisciplinary practice.

Dr Keely Boom was admitted to practice in the State of New South Wales in 2006. She has almost 20 years of experience as a practising solicitor, with experience across family law; wills and estates; criminal defence; and other areas.


Dr Boom graduated from the University of Wollongong in 2006 with a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) and Bachelor of Laws (Honours). She held the prestigious IMB Work-Integrated Foundation Scholarship.


Dr Boom achieved a HSC mark of 99.55, and was a mathematics accelerant at Moruya High School. 


Dr Boom regularly appears in the Local Court, the District Court, the Supreme Court, and the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.

In 2013, Dr Boom was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Law) from the University of Wollongong with her topic 'Exposure to Legal Risk for Climate Change under the UNFCCC, Kyoto Protocol and LOSC: A Case Study of Tuvalu and Australia'. 


She currently teaches Environmental Law at the University of Wollongong; and Climate Law at Australian National University. She has previously taught a range of other subjects, including Equity and Trusts; Property Law; Indigenous Peoples and Legal Systems; and Animal Law.


Dr Boom is an author of peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and popular media articles. She presents at conferences both in Australia and internationally.
